PIGS:
Zimbabwe’s hot, dry weather is especially dangerous for pigs because they lack functional sweat glands and have a thick layer of fat, making them highly vulnerable to heat stress.
- Provide deep shade and a wallow or sprinkler to wet their skin.
- Give cool water with *Vita Stress Plus* to replace electrolytes lost from panting.
- Feed only in the cool morning and evening—never in peak heat.
- Reduce stocking density and maximise airflow with fans or open sides.
- Watch for rapid panting (over 60 breaths/min in sows)—cool them down immediately.
BIRDS:
- Open all vents and use fans—air must move over the birds.
- Give cool water with *Vita Stress Plus* (1ml per 10L) to replace electrolytes lost from panting.
- Feed only in the cool morning and evening—never in peak heat.
- Reduce stocking density to 10 birds/m² and keep litter dry.
- Watch for panting—it is the first warning before death. Act immediately.
